What’s In A Word?

Well … if you’re Microsoft, quite a lot – particularly when McKool Smith’s amazing Sam Baxter, http://www.mckoolsmith.com/professionals-19.html,  just won $290 million fines against you and an INJUNCTION on further sales of your Word program.

That’s the news out of the ever fascinating Eastern District of Texas, where Judge Leonard Davis found that Microsoft infringed a patent held by i4i with its Word product. http://blogs.wsj.com/law/2009/08/12/microsoft-word-less/ Microsoft has 60 days to tweak its product before it is banned from selling Microsoft Word 2003, 2007 or any future infringing Word product.

The excellent Matt Powers, http://www.weil.com/matthewpowers/, of Weil Gotshal’s Silicon Valley office is representing Microsoft.
