Globalization, The Sequel?

According to, Allen & Overy, a leading U.K. firm, is in merger talks, we presume with a U.S. firm.  A year ago, Allen & Overy’s rumored suitor was Shearman & Sterling. The Magic Circle firm is denying it is hooking up, saying it is “not in any merger talks whatsoever with a US partner.”

The rumors come just a week after it was disclosed that Lovells is in merger talks with Hogan & Hartson. A Hogan & Hartson Lovells combination would yield more than 2,500 lawyers and $1.9 billion in revenues. offers an interesting look at the difficulties of such a pairing.
